Visual reminders of the foods I cannot have. Seeing them will have to suffice while I stick to my diet.

Please read my FAQ to learn more :)

The purpose of this blog is to promote high quality imagery of food. It is based on my personal food preferences which, although has a huge range, is still limited to a degree. I’m a recent grad living at home with my family and cooking as many meals as I can for them. I have such a deep passion for food and cooking that simply looking at photos brings me joy. Hopefully that joy can translate to you as well :)

Some questions to consider while browsing my blog:

Why did you create this blog?
I had started collecting my own food photos a while back. However, with time it steadily took over my computer space. Since most of the blogs I was taking the photos from were on tumblr, I decided to create one and use it as my directory for food photos. The photos here are meant to act as inspiration and eye candy.

Do you cook any of the food posted?
No I do not get a chance to cook anything posted as the range is far too great. However, I do cook on a regular basis for myself, family and friends. Cooking is a passion of mine that I continue to pursue. My food blog is currently under construction and will be relauching soon.

What is your favourite food?
While I cook all foods in every category from every culture, I would have to say that my favourites come from the Thai culture. I appreciate the balance in flavours, the simplicity and freshness of ingredients, the variety of dishes and the richness in taste. I hope to someday go to Thailand and experience the food for myself.

What is your nationality?
I am full filipino and very proud of my culture especially Filipino food. It is what I grew up on and still eat often today. I’d like to think of Filipino food to be the soul food of Asia with its hearty and filling dishes, heavy in meats and sauces. It is actually one of the food cultures I rarely cook as nothing seems to beat grandmother’s cooking. If you haven’t given Filipino food a try, I highly suggest you do. If you’d like some recommendations on what to try, feel free to ask :)

Why did you choose Ubiquitous Food Cravings as the name?
It is modelled after my own personal food blog.

How do you decide what gets posted?
While I have my own collection of food photos, I reblog everything that is on my page. I do this to ensure that I do not intentionally give the impression that I own any of the photos. As for how they are chosen. I look for high quality photography with proper balance. I am no photography expert but I do know a little about composition and lighting and apply these principles to my food photo choices

Why do you not reblog anything that has a watermark?
It is a personal choice of mine to try to not reblog anything that has watermarks on them. As a food blogger myself, I have chosen to watermark my personal food photography on my separate blog for the intention of deterring people from taking my content. As a result I choose not to reblog those kinds of photos out of respect for my fellow food bloggers who may feel the same. I do not suggest that reblogging such photos is incorrect practice in any way. It is merely a preference I wish to uphold.

How do you determine what gets ‘liked’ while other are ‘reblogged’?
Reblogging is done to photos presenting food that I would currently be craving or wishing to eat this moment. Those that are liked are merely appetizing photos that I’d like to keep records of. This means that every time I sit down to post photos onto my blog, the theme of the food will be different than the last. It all depends on my tastes for the day as this blog was originally created for that purpose. Separating the two also helps from flooding follower’s dashboards (since not all are food bloggers themselves) with excessive food posts, strictly showing them what I think are really the best of the best.

How often do you post?
I run a variety of different blogs on different hosting sites. This is my second tumblr as I have a personal one as well (www.jara-mae.tumblr.com) I try to come on here at least every other day and do a batch of uploads depending on my cravings. I use the queue to ensure spacing between each post.

How come you don’t tag your posts?
I know I really should but I’m a bad blogger and I’m just too lazy. I apologize for the inconvenience. Every once in a while I try to start but end up forgetting again. If it’s something you really want implemented let me know and I’ll do my best to do it more often.

Do you take requests?
At this time, my content is completely based on the posts of other bloggers out there. Therefore it would be difficult for me to cater to specific requests and spam my dash as many other food blogs do. I also like to encourage variety as I’m typically craving more than one thing at a time. You are always welcome to submit something. Depending upon what it is, I will do my best to post it at some point when I’m craving it. Feel free to ask anyways and I’ll see what I can do.

Can you please follow my blog?
I currently only follow blogs that are strictly food related in order to keep my dashboard filled with food photos. Feel free to send me your link or better yet, send me your link in the ask box of my personal tumblr (www.jara-mae.tumblr.com) and I’ll give it a look and hopefully follow there.

Can you promote my blog? What blogs would you reccomend?
At this time I only promote blogs that are food blogs as well. They must be a follower of mine in order to be promoted. I take a look at all the blogs of my followers and follow those of interest on my personal blog. There are numerous food blogs out there. I currently follow approx 200+ so to only pick a few wouldn’t properly do it justice. If you’d like I can share with you who I’ve recommended for the week (as that changes each week based on posting) and that way I can let you at least know who is currently my fav.

What is your diet exactly? How is your progress?

The only diet I’d comfortably promote is ‘cook everything yourself’ diet. Which basically means reducing as much as possible having your food produced elsewhere, either in a restaurant, fast food place or pre packaged foods. There’s a lot of salt and unhealthy fats lurking in most of them. Plus there is a great joy from making food yourself for yourself or for friends.

Also proper portion control through calorie counting and maintenance of macronutrients is essential for a healthy diet. If you have any questions about that, feel free to ask.

As for my progress, I’m down 15 pounds :)

What foods/food combos do you not like?

While I am more than willing to eat just about anything, I too have preferences. Here are some foods/ingredients/combos you may rarely see on this blog.

  • pumpkin, i’ve rarely eaten this as an ingredient
  • artichokes, rarely eaten this as well
  • avocados (sometimes)
  • brussel sprouts
  • fresh apples (sometimes)
  • bananas as an ingredient other than in banana bread
  • red bean (sometimes)
  • I’ve only had one drink from starbucks so I try not to post things I haven’t tried.
  • custard pies in most varieties
  • straight up coffee (i’m not a coffee drinker)
  • rarely crave popcorn
  • not a big fan of truffles
  • capers
  • olives
  • lentils
  • quinoa
